Rotamobil is an electronic tourist guide for mobile devices. Rotamobil, enables a user to explore the important sites of the region being visited through a predefined tour route using a simple map of the area. Interactive information about the attractions, nearby locations for catering and shopping, menus, timetables and programs, discount tickets and previous customer experience information will be provided to the user.
The system currently relies on user feedback for detemining the location information, however as Location Based Services mature and the accuracy of the location detection becomes adequate automatic location detection will be integrated into the sytem.
The users are also able to rate or comment on any visited site, and read previous comments or ratings left by past visitors.
Rotamobil system also enables the user to create a digital diary of his/her trip using a web based application by uploading any media content they have produced during the trip and associating the content with visited sights. Rotamobil system can run on any mobile device supporting the Java MIDP 2.0 technology which is available in most of todays mobile phones or PDAs. Rotamobil framework can also be utilized for exploring special event sites like major exhibitions or shopping centers.
